Laphroaig Distillery · Islay, Scotland
"The most divisive dram in Scotland — and the most unforgettable."
DL SCORE
Laphroaig 10 is not for everyone, and it knows it. The distillery's own marketing once declared it 'an acquired taste' — which is either the most honest or most brilliant piece of whisky marketing ever written. Once acquired, however, the taste for Laphroaig is lifelong. This is the peat monster that started it all.

Founded in 1815 on the southern shore of Islay, Laphroaig is one of the most visited distilleries in Scotland. It holds a Royal Warrant from HRH The Prince of Wales — making it the only heavily peated whisky with royal approval. The distillery still malts a portion of its own barley on traditional floor maltings and cuts its own peat from bogs on the distillery grounds.
Laphroaig uses heavily peated malt (around 40–45 ppm phenols) dried over Islay peat fires, which imparts the signature medicinal, iodine, and seaweed character. Distilled in tall, unusually shaped pot stills and matured in ex-bourbon American white oak casks for 10 years in damp, sea-facing warehouses.
"Laphroaig is the whisky that separates the curious from the committed. If you love it, you'll love it forever."
